Blog Backlink Creation Part 1: Understanding what backlinks can do for your blog
When it comes down to it, blogging is all about traffic. Backlinks provide two very important functions when it comes to securing traffic for your blog.
1. Backlinks leave a trail to your blog: When I read a blog, links on the page serve as roads for me. If I get bored with the content on the site, I click a link and see where it takes me. From there, I may click on more links and keep going on this never ending trail of links. You want your blog to have a backlink to as many blogs as possible so that somewhere, there is a left turn to your blog in the roadway already built. The more turnoffs to your blog there are,the more likely people will navigate to your blog using the backlink.
2. Search engine optimization and search engine rank are impacted by backlinks: The brains behind the search engine algorithms use the number of backlinks to a blog as a variable in determining the blogs overall value. The more value, the higher the rank when someone searches on one of your keywords.
This is not to say any backlink is a good backlink. The search engine developers have an algorithm which does put more weight in quality backlinks versus ones they would consider spam. Do not just get your backlink everywhere but try to get a link to your site on relevant, popular blogs that share the same theme or at least in the same category as your own. This will help by naturally getting traffic from interested readers clicking the link on the other blog and will increase your rank in the search engines.
Over the next few days I will share three specific ways to get backlinks to your blog. Spend one hour if you can each day and try out technique and let me know in if in a few months you see your traffic increasing.
