To increase your search engine rank, one Search Engine Optimization technique you can use when working on creating backlinks is called anchor text.

Anchor text simply put is the words you read that link to a website. For example, Blogging about SEO - the words Blogging about SEO is anchor text for a link to this post. A Search Engine Optimization technique is to ensure that not only do you many backlinks to your site but that the anchor text of those links are specific to your keywords.

Instead of using the name of your blog as the link, if you ask someone to post a link to your site, give them the anchor text for the link. You can even provide them the snipped of code you are looking for. In this case you would ask them to exchange a link using the following code:

<a href=”http://thebloggingcenter.com”> Blogging about SEO </a>

Using anchor text will help increase the value of your backlinks and will not take you any more effort then you are already spending trying to built them up. Make the most of your backlinks by using keywords that best define your site as your anchor text.
