Blogging for beginners: watch the word count in your posts

There is a line where a blog post has gone off the deep end with their ranting and raving to the point where the word count has exceeded most people’s tolerance level. On the flip side some people only write a few lines which took longer to load up the blog post than to read it. So my tip in blogging for beginners is to find the line between too much and not enough, in my experience this is between 250 – 300 words.

250 – 300 word blog posts are generally accepted as the normal amount to qualify has enough material yet not overkill. If you are beginner blogger and have this wonderful idea for a huge post that would exceed 250 words a popular solution is to break your post down into a series and post them over a period of a week or so. Consider your own reading habits and apply it to your own blogging to make the most of your 250 words. Here is a good article to keep in mind when writing your posts.

Another reason sticking with 250 to 300 blog post word counts is that it helps readers set expectations. They know what to get from you and what to expect. I think that is important as sometimes I get turned off by random blogs that have no consistency in their layout or format. So if you have an idea that covers many areas, break each area into a different post. This also helps you out by focusing each article about one topic it will let you make the most of keyword density which can help your SEO results of the article.
