Can you get ranked without search engine optimization

Many new bloggers are turned away to the idea of making money online because they are flooded with the idea of search engine optimization. I know when I started out I was told if I didn’t learn everything there was to learn about search engine optimization than no one would ever read my blogs. Well, this is not really the case and I think this gets forgotten. If you are a new blogger, don’t get overwhelmed.

Good quality content over a long period of time will increase traffic naturally. People who read the site will sign up for RSS feeds, they will link to articles you post as reference points, your articles will show up on the search engines. The difference between rolling out a full blown SEO blog and not focusing on your keyword selections is a matter of time. Search engine optimized blogs will rank to the top much faster and with less work than a blog that is not writing for search engine optimization. They will get ranked to the top if they consistently produce good material for years but this is the hard way to get there.

So really comes down to the blogger. SEO is one way to get a blog ranked up high quickly in search results however this does not mean anything on its own. It does not mean anyone reads your blog or that you will make money from your blog. Just that it is ranked high in search results. So what am I getting at? Well, there needs to be a blending of quality of content mixed with SEO techniques. You need to write for your readers and focus on putting out articles that add value but at the same time you need to use some basics SEO fixes like keywords, getting backlinks and selecting proper titles for your blog posts. These simple steps could shave off months to years to getting ranked on page one for your niche.

Get your online email marketing going

One of the most important things you can do as a blogger is to convert traffic to readership. A great way to do this is to offer an email subscription on your blog and use that as the basis for your online email marketing.

If you provide interesting content on your site that adds value to the readers, they will want to return however lets face it, people get busy and forget about you. What you need to do is make sure they are reminded and notified whenever you make a new post. This is where your online email marketing comes into play. You want to place somewhere on your main page where it is attractive to the idea (not hidden) a place for users to subscribe. In your blog posts now and again feel free to encourage readers to subscribe or use a blogging plug-in so that each post reminds the reader to subscribe to your email feed.

Once you have built up a steady online email marketing plan you can even add advertisements in the newsletter that gets sent out each time you post. In addition if you eventually sell an ebook or start a new venture this email list will give you a starting place for an audience.

Another way to use online email marketing is to find an online email marketing professional who has already built up a deep list of readers and see if you can convince them to make a post about your blog or do a guest post for their site. This will help get some traffic your way and hopefully convert some of their traffic to your own.

Three tips to increase blog traffic using Social Media

While I have talked about making the most of SEO lately and trying increase blog traffic by working on keywords and backlinks, you can also try to increase your blog traffic using popular social media sites.

In many cases just a simple mention of your blog on a site like Stumble or Facebook can result in a huge spike in readership just overnight. If you have an interesting blog that spike can turn into more RSS feeds and reoccurring traffic. They key is to get your site listed and mentioned to increase blog traffic. Here are three tips to increase your blog traffic with social media.

Three tips to increase blog traffic

1. Don’t be afraid to list your own sites on Social Media sites. There is nothing wrong especially early on with adding your own sites to places like Stumble or Digg. If you are just getting started Digg your own posts, create your own Facebook account and mention your blog there. Don’t be shy!

2. Join communities and become active. Check out blogging communities like Blog Catalog and My Blog Log where you can join and market your blog by joining groups of similar interests. This is a great way to increase blog traffic as you know the people you interact share the same interests and therefore are not just spamming your blog when they visit.

3. Be social and comment as much as possible. Bloggers are out there just like you. Working hard to build a readership and appreciate comments that have value. In return, they generally will come and comment on your blog. Overtime you gain a normal readership that exchanges meaningful comments. You can also use sites like blog explosion or carousel to exchange blog comments and readers though I have found these less valuable to gaining normal readership. Just a one time increase in blog traffic.

One of the things every blogger with dreams of making cash online needs to know is how to get involved in blog promotion. Blog promotion is the only way to get readers to your site. The more readers equates to more possibilities that one of them will click an advertisement and you then make some cash online blogging.

Blog promotion starts with the basics of learning SEO or Search engine optimization. This means building a blog that will rank high in search engine results. Majority of people who look for things online start out on a search engine and query keywords related to what they want to find. Your goal is to identify what keywords you are going to master and work them into articles and backlinks to your site.

Once you have SEO down, start looking into SMO or Social media optimization. This means having your articles picked up by social media giants like digg and stumble. It also includes using facebook, tweeter and any other social media you can to get the word out about your blog and each post you add.

Blog promotion is about getting the word out. Telling everyone who will listen and making it easy to find your blog. Everywhere you leave a footprint in the web should be an easy link to your blog. A forum, a comment on another blog or even in your email signature.

Three tips to effective blog marketing

There are a lot of terms and phrases out there when it comes to increasing traffic to your blog, but in the end it all boils down to blog marketing. SEO tips, backlinks, Social Media, these are all forms of blog marketing. Ways to get your name out there and get attention for your domain.

So how can you effectively get involved with blog marketing. Here are three tips I would start with:

Social Media Optimization: Social Media Optimization or SMO is the process of joining social sites where people can share blog posts, mark ones they enjoyed and follow bloggers they enjoy. If you are new to blog marketing with SMO and don’t know where to start, check out this list of the top 100 Social media sites out there. Join a few and get active.

Search Engine Optimization: Let’s go right to the source on this one. Here is what google has to say about how to get attention for your blog on their search engine. This is the process of making your blog more appealing to Search engine spiders by using SEO techniques to increase your page rank which in the long run will increase your traffic.

Content: Using SMO or SEO you can get people to FIND your blog but this doesn’t really mean anything unless you get them to READ your blog. Better yet, you want them to subscribe to your RSS feed or bookmark your site so that they come back over and over again with your new posts. The key to his blog marketing is simple, write good quality content for your blog. Add value to your reader so that when your SEO and SMO pans out for you, you can keep the reader coming back for more in the future.

Increase traffic to your website with Google blog search

In addition to getting backlinks for your blog and writing good quality content rich in keywords, another way to ensure more traffic is to ensure you are part of google blog search. You may have submitted your site to google search and every other search engine out there but google blog search is a different entity and you may not be found there.

Google blog search only does what it says, focuses on blogs that match the keywords search upon and ignores websites or other content out there. You provide your RSS feed and it will index that for future queries. I have submitted this to the blog search tool and have seen some referrals already so I do think it is effective.

One tip I have found is that blogs with more then one author tend to do better with the blog search tool. One of my blogs has new authors each week and it is always on the first page of the results for my keywords.

A second tip I can suggest is that this blog search tool does look at when the content was released. This gives you an advantage over some of the older more established blogs who have old blogs that dominate certain keywords. If you post on a normal basis your posts will show on page one for your keywords during the first few hours or short period of time depending on how popular your topic is. For many, that may be the only way to get to the first page given how competitive some of the keywords are.

Give it a try and let me know if you see an increase traffic to your blog using Google blog search.
